Some of our favorites are baseball party, chuck e cheese, tea parties, claytopia, craft party at home, bowling, roller skating, swim party at ymca, and splash lagoon!
Chuckie Cheese is always a fave w/the kids but can be costly

Splash Lagoon does a nice party too, but kind of expensive

Picnic in the Park (don't go to Presque Isle on the weekend, use Frontier or another smaller park) - invite some kids, bring blankets & picnic foods (PB&J Sandwich, Cupcakes, etc.) and games to play. This one I love cuz it's basically "free" other than the cost of the food or any games you buy

Backyard Campfire - nice for a later birthday party, have a campfire, s'mores & hot dogs for the kids to cook in the fire. Of course, this would have to be age appropriate. Again, inexpensive.

Movie Night - let the kids pick out 1 or 2 movies & have a sleepover with a few friends. Cupcakes or a cake made to look like a big container of popcorn (so easy to do).

Costume Party - get use out of those millions of halloween costumes you have in the closet and have kids dress in costume, play games similar to those you would for a halloween party (bob for apples on a string, toilet paper mummy wrap, etc.)

Paint Gun Party - of course for older kids. Check local paint ball places for availability (yellow pages)

Lazer Tag Party - again, costs money & there are age limits, size limits so check ahead

Cookie Decorating Party - goes over well with girls especially, slightly in between ages (not old enough for a "bigger" party but too old for a "little kid" party. Pre-bake Pillsbury slice cookies, buy lots of cans of frosting, decorations, and icing bags(or use sandwich bags) with tips so they can decorate cookies themselves. Make enough for each girl to do 6 or more & bag up what they don't eat to take home. Serve "pizza" or something instead of cake, as you're already providing a super sweet treat!

Make Your Own Pizza Party - fun for teens, have the counter setup with various toppings, from veggies to meats, cheese & sauce. Buy the mini flat breads or english muffins for pizzas or some grocers even carry single sized pizza crusts. Let them build their own. Put parchment paper down with their name & they can put their pizza on it to bake. When it's pulled out everyone has their own. In the mean time watch a movie or turn on tunes to dance.
Family First will do a nice party, you can rent a room, they have pizza and drinks and the kids can bounce around on the moonbounce toys. They also have miniature golf, go-carts, bumper boats. The WLD Ranch hosts parties complete with room and pony rides for the kids. You could also have a gymnastics party. Erie Gymnastics will also host a party and set up activities and let the kids use the equipment, not sure if you need to have a child in school there. Hope these ideas help.
Painting at Claytopia! Not only the birthday child, but also the guests will have a piece of pottery they paint themselves to treasure for years to come. Party room also available at no extra charge.
Zoo Party (either the reserved zoo party inside the zoo or your own at one of their picnic pavilions). Our zoo has pretty decent prices, they provide nearly everything, and all the kids invited get free admission to the zoo. They even include pizza.

Chuck E. Cheese (for the bravest, most patient, and most energetic moms and dads only!) They provide a bunch of tokens for each guest in the reservation, and Chuck E. Cheese comes out to sing to the birthday boy or girl.

Claytopia party (these seem to be most appealing to pre-teen girls, but I've seen small parties of 6- year- olds)

Water Balloons at your house (best birthday party of my childhood was spent soaked, running around my friend's parents' house retaliating against the team that had "won" by chasing them with the hose. I think we were 12 or 13).

Pool party (if you or someone you're particularly good friends with and who owes you a favor has one).

Evan's Skateland party (Does anyone do these anymore? I remember loving these when I was little!)

Ice Skating Party (probably a little more expensive. I think JMC might do them).

I saw a teenage birthday party recently at one of the Chinese buffet places. They have a room that you can reserve for your guests, and they even come sing to you. It's pretty neat. I have no idea what that would cost, but yum- Chinese at a birthday party.
An 80's theme skating party. Under The Sea Mermaid party--that's what I am doing.
there is a flea-market by the mall called all-seasons market place, well inside there is a place that has indoor bounce around, it huge and they have a little putt putt golf area as well. they will rent the whole place out for a small fee, you can bring in crock pots or order pizza from there cafe' it's fun for all ages, i take my whole family and we all play my kids range from 2yrs old to 17 yrs old and we all had fun! Looking for a large indoor funplace to have a party this is definitely It. Plus for all moms who love a gr8 flea market this 2 for 1 kids play moms shop, even my husband found a few must haves @ the market! Its only open on the weekend so to contact someone, try on the weekend! she will allow you to have a party during the week i do believe!! she was a very nice lady!!!
Gymnastics!
Splash Lagoon!
Magician!
Port Farms!
Check out www.jumpinjungle4fun.com, we are under new ownership and have revised the birthday paties and even allow outside food! We have private parties also!
An idea that I had for a party, but didn't have the chance to do was a "camping" theme, where I would put up a white sheet on the side of the garage with a projector, put on a couple of movies, and set up "camp". I'm pretty sure the other details are obvious... :)
