Cell phones for kids

Working on a story for the paper about kids & cell phones. What do you think? Do your kids have cell phones? Are you considering buying them one? Can we talk? :) Send me an email to heather.cass@timesnews.com. I'd love to find out what moms (and dads) think about kids & cell phones. Won't be long until I"m dealing with this myself (my daughters are 7 & 9 and...to my knowledge...not of their schoolmates have phones, but..). See More

Back-to-school prep

Are you one of those moms who's already getting ready to send the kids back to school? I'm doing a story on 10 things you can do now (story runs Aug. 5) to get ready to send the kids back to school at the end of the month and I'm looking for moms who plan ahead. I just want to talk to you about what you do & why....how it helps...if it helps the kids to make the transition smoother, etc. Are you a prepared mom? Email me at heather.cass@timesnews.com. I need to hear from you by Friday, July…See More

Hi Steve. I know that Family Services of Erie County offers a Big Brother/Big Sister mentoring program. You can get more information on it here: http://www.familyserviceserie.org/bbbs.php. Another idea is to get her involved in Girl Scouts. There…

I've always had luck at Macy's -- they have a nice "fancy dress" dept. just inside the store past the makeup counters. If you're looking for a bargain, try a place like the Sassy Peacock -- a consignment store.

Heather commented on Jeorja Morum's blog post 'Kindergarten Entry,'
I have two late-July babies. I waited to send my older daughter -- on the advice of her Preschool teachers who thought she'd benefit from an extra year in P.S. -- in the 5-day program -- instead of tossing her into an all-day K program. I was…

Has the lousy economy brought your family closer?

I'm working on a story for the newspaper about how the lousy economy has actually been good for families. It brings us closer together for a variety of reasons (working together to solve a problem, less focus on materialism, less money for movies and focusing on free fun like family game night, etc.).I'm wondering...do any of you share my philosophy? Have any of you seen some good come out of having less money (as it related to your family)? Would you be willing to share your story/be…See More

Relationship Status:
Mom
About Me:
I'm a 38-year-old mom of two very dynamic and very different daughters, 6 & 8, who make every day an adventure -- some days are harrowing, some are heavenly, some are ridiculously fun, and some are frustrating -- but they are never dull.

I've been married for 15 years to a husband who can put an addition on the house or pour a concrete driveway just as well as he can change a diaper and make dinner.

I work full-time as the special sections editor at the Erie Times-News where I also serve as editor in chief of Her Times magazine -- a bi-monthly magazine for women.

I stand by the statement that everything I need to know in life, I have learned from a girlfriend. I look forward to all that you can teach me.
