Moms and Dads, I need your help.
I am an avid slow-cooker fan, using it more often than not to put dinner on my table. Over the years I have tried a lot of recipes, and narrowed them down to a go-to bunch – many from the newspaper – that I make all the time because they

My daughter wanted a sleepover for her birthday, but living in a one-story brick ranch meant that wasn't going to happen with a bunch of little girls.
So we tried one friend Saturday night - post birthday.
Lunch at Creamland, a day at the pool, hot dogs for dinner and then into pjs. And then I asked dd to explain the 9 o'clock rule, which means is if you are going to bail out on a sleepover, you have to do it by 9 p.m.
We learned this the hard way. We've had friends try to bail at 11 p.m., which…

This is not going to win any culinary awards, but it will be a winner with your kids.
Fish sticks, preferably the battered kind instead of breaded (but whatever you have on hand)
Salsa
Coleslaw
Taco mixture packet
Sliced avocado (optional)
Flour tortillas
Cook fish sticks according to directions. In the meantime, warm up tortillas.
Add a tablespoon of taco seasoning to coleslaw. Or just mix a little mayo with the taco seasoning and substitute chopped lettuce if your child doesn't like coleslaw…

We had a treasure-hunt themed birthday party this weekend -- great way to keep kids occupied. The girls were skeptical at first, until they got competitive about who was going to find the next treasure.
A trip to the dollar store gave me enough loot to fill treasure for each stop (markers, chalk, notebooks) and fill the treasure chest for our final stop at the beach.
Just make sure you have enough stops for each kid to pick up a clue for the next location - birthday girl gets the final clue to f…

hi- my husband and i just moved to erie from providence, ri with our two-year old son. i've tried to look at a bunch of other message boards that i used to read like thebump.com and mothering.com for recs, but none of them seem to have sections for erie mamas- just pittsburgh and philly.
so, any ideas of good pediatricians, ob/gyns, dentists, or family practice docs? any ones to avoid? it's really overwhelming to just start at google.
also, i would love to find some places to…

Who your kindergarten teacher is turns out to be just as important as every mom knows in her gut.
While Pennsylvania doesn't require kindergarten, and even 10 years ago certain principals were insisting that moms were using kindergarten as taxpayer-paid daycare, turns out that kindergarten is pretty important.
A recent study, which hasn't been peer reviewed yet, suggests that your child's kindergarten teacher influences whether she goes to college. And going to college will influence h…

Blueberry picking is at its peak now and for the next couple of weeks. Unlike raspberries, there are no thorns so it is a great activity to show kids where food comes from. Plus you can make sweet treats, such as muffins and pies, to show your kids that now all food comes from the market.
I have a really easy pie dough recipe that doesn't require rolling, so kids can help out.
Easy Pie Dough
6 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons shortening
2 tablespooons sugar
2 ounces cream cheese
1 1 /4 cup fl…

I just want to talk to you about what you do & why....how it helps...if it helps the kids to make the transition smoother, etc.
Are you a prepared mom? Email me at heather.cass@timesnews.com.

My daughter loves bacon and will take any excuse to sneak some when it is just out of the oven.
Tomatoes are just coming into my garden and the lettuce is growing like a weed. Corn is in at the farmers markets.
All this adds up to one delicious salad.
You can link to it

I was wondering if any mothers with toddlers/infants/preschoolers would be interested in forming a playgroup. We live in Belle Valley and would love to get to know some other families and their children who live in or around us. Would anyone be interested in this?
Thanks for the feedback!

Oh my I am so excited. I love having extra income coming in just from home. Our economy around here does not seem to be moving in the right direction. It is so irratating.
Then comes what to do with the limited funds, weather and limited things to do. I am so glad we have the penisuala, some parks to go to that does not cost anything. But as for the older teens they have it bad. I still think that the dock was the best. Yes they may have had

Ok someone please tell me, how do you get of this funk? It seems like lately I have been fight with thought of going to work. I listen to women who have jobs that allow them to spend time with their child, atleast alot more than I can. I was going through my days and realized that I only see my children 3 hours a day before they go to bed. And as all of you know that time is spent making dinner, eating, baths and in another year homework.
