any doctor/dentist/fun stuff recs for an erie newbie?

hi- my husband and i just moved to erie from providence, ri with our two-year old son. i've tried to look at a bunch of other message boards that i used to read like thebump.com and mothering.com for recs, but none of them seem to have sections for erie mamas- just pittsburgh and philly.

so, any ideas of good pediatricians, ob/gyns, dentists, or family practice docs? any ones to avoid? it's really overwhelming to just start at google.

also, i would love to find some places to hang out with other mamas and toddlers- parks, classes (if they are cheap or free), playgroups- any ideas of where to look? i've been a high school art teacher for the past eight years, but now with move i'm going to be a stay at home mama and i would love to find activities or adventures to keep my son and myself entertained and inspired.

thanks for your help!

Best obgyn is Andrea Jeffress. Pediatricians are hard to come by - most have closed practices at this point. Dr. Garcia is a great dentist -- takes about 6 months to get in.

awesome- thanks. i had actually just come across dr jeffress online a few days ago, but they said she is only taking new patients if they are pregnant, so i told them that i would get back to them in a month or two :) we did go see one pedi so far, but i may keep looking...

thanks for your help!

Dr. Jackson at Plaza Dental specializes with children and is wonderful. I see another dentist in the practice while my 3 kids see him. I agree about Dr. Jeffress but also like my doctor in the same practice. We have always liked Dr. Andrea Fadrigo at Your Pediatric Connection/Hamot and she just opned a westside office by Zuck Park which is very convenient.

Oh, also...when I wasn't working I enjoyed Strollerfit classes with Dana Borczon. In the summer they were held at the Pepsi Amphitheater park at the bayfront and at a church or the mall in the winter months. But I'm not sure if she still does it or how to get ahold of her.

For pediatricians I like Dr. Zomcik at Children's healthcare west. OB's I would suggest Women's health partners; they have good midwives. I have heard of people going to MOPS groups for mom's to socialize. you can go to their website and look to see if there is one by your area. http://www.mops.org/

I was looking through this site and had to sign up just so I could reply to this message... With any doctor you choose obviously if you don't feel comfortable with something they are saying - get a second opinion. I know many people that like Dr. Jeffres but I had a bad experience with her. I wasn't even 30 years old yet and had no children of my own and just because she didn't want to take the time to do test to see why I was having problems with my period she wanted me to have a hystorectomy. That was just unacceptable to me not to have a reason of why I was having problems but want to do such a drastic surgery - thankfully I got another opinion and many test later, still have all my parts and they are in good working order! haha
